Lipoprotein abnormalities in non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients with impaired extrahepatic insulin sensitivity, hypertension and microalbuminuria
The lipoprotein levels, the LDL and HDL particle size gradient gel electrophoresis were analyzed in type 2 diabetic patients normotensive and non microalbuminuric, hypertensive non microalbuminuric, and hypertensives with microalbuminuria. Diabetic patients with hypertension and with hypertension and microalbuminuria are characterized by lower HDL (particularly HDL 2b) cholesterol levels than controls and by an impaired extrahepatic insulin sensitivity. The LDL particle size was lower in diabetic patients than in controls, and particularly in type 2 diabetic patients with hypertension without microalbuminuria and in the same patients with both hypertension and microalbuminuria.
